The Ready, Set, Go™ School Readiness Program was developed by Aisling Discoveries Child and Family Centre. It was devised with the premise that a child’s entrance into the school system is his or her first big step into the outside world. An unsuccessful transition has implications for future learning and development. The Ready, Set, Go™ Program is made up of two components: a children’s group, which addresses the basic issues of school transition, i.e. separation from caregiver, rules and routines in the classroom, social skills; and a parent’s group, which addresses issues related to understanding the school system and what the child will experience, and how to support the child. Ready, Set, Go™ is a ten-session program, running daily for two weeks in the summer months. Sessions are 1 ½ hours in duration. The program has been delivered in numerous schools in the Scarborough area for the past 10 years. Parents and teachers alike have provided very positive feedback about the program.
Training for facilitators can be arranged through Aisling Discoveries Child and Family Centre. A comprehensive manual has also been developed to assist in delivering the program.
